If you’re preparing for your first counselling session with Aimee at Centaur Counselling, here’s what you can expect

1. Warm Welcome and Introduction

Aimee will likely begin by introducing herself, explaining her role as a counsellor, and ensuring you feel comfortable in the environment. She’ll create a space that feels safe and supportive for you to share.

2. Confidentiality and Boundaries

Aimee will explain the confidentiality policies and the boundaries of your counselling sessions, including the situations where confidentiality may need to be broken (such as concerns about harm to yourself or others).

3. Getting to Know You

Your first session is usually an opportunity for Aimee to get to know you. She might ask about your reasons for seeking counselling, your personal background, and any immediate concerns or feelings you want to discuss. Don’t worry if you’re unsure where to begin—Aimee will gently guide the conversation.



4. Setting Goals

Together, you may start to explore what you want to achieve through counselling. These goals might be related to personal growth, resolving specific challenges, managing stress or anxiety, or simply feeling more balanced.

5. No Pressure to Share Everything

The first session is just the beginning. Aimee will not expect you to open up about everything right away, and you’ll move at your own pace. You can share as much or as little as you feel comfortable.

6. Creating a Plan

Aimee may start to suggest some approaches or techniques that could help, based on what you share. This could include ongoing sessions, mindfulness strategies, or exploring specific issues more deeply over time.



7. Questions and Concerns

Feel free to ask Aimee any questions about the process, how she works, or what to expect going forward. This session is as much about you feeling comfortable as it is about beginning the counselling journey.


Your first session is an opportunity to establish a trusting relationship and begin understanding your needs and goals for therapy. It’s okay to feel nervous, but rest assured Aimee will be there to support you.
